1971년 5월생, 우리나이로 마흔 둘(외국인인데 우리나이?),

자메이카와 프랑스계 혈통을 이어받은 미국인,

세 아이의 아버지(Mariah[14], Sonny Boy[9], Lillie[7]),

그리고 15년차 베테랑 워십리더이자 CCM 아티스트!!

 

오늘 소개할 Israel Houghton을 설명할 수 있는 키워드들 입니다^^

(이스라엘 '휴튼'이라고도 하고 '호튼'이라고도 발음하지요.)

 

그를 알게 되었던것은 '긍정의 힘'으로 유명한 'Joel Osteen' 목사가 시무하는 Lakewood Church(in Houston, Texas)의 워십리더 중 하나로서 입니다. 물론 'Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff' 가 메인이라면 서브 워십리더 정도로 말이지요.

하지만 그가 자신의 존재를 드러내는데는 그리 오랜 시간이 걸리질 않았지요^^

한가지 덧붙이자면 레이크우드처치의 현재 워십리더들을 찾아봤더니 반가운 이름이 있더군요.

바로 3인조(나중엔 2인조로 바뀌었죠) CCM 그룹 Anointed의 남매 'Steve Crawford'와 'Da'dra Crawford-Greathouse'가praise and worship team의 일원이더라구요.

 

스패니쉬 앨범과 베스트 앨범을 포함해 11장의 앨범을 발표하며 6개의 Dove Awards, 2개의 Stellar Awards, 그리고 4개의 Grammy Awards를 수상하게 됩니다. (아래는 그래미상 수상 내역과 음반명입니다.)

그가 'A Deeper Level,2007' 이후 5년 만의 LIVE 앨범이자 자신의 12번째 앨범인 'Jesus At The Centre [Live],2012' 를 발표했습니다!

(centre 는 center와 같이 [^|sentə(r)]로 발음하면 됩니다.)

 

두 장의 CD에 2012년 2월 Lakewood Church에서 레코딩한 2시간 19분 짜리 독특하고 강렬한 워십을 담았습니다.

아.. 3곡의 스튜디오 버전을 포함한 러닝타임입니다^^;; 뭐 어쨋든 몇번만 들어도 하루가 후딱 가더군요^^

 

 

개인적으론 펑키한 “Jesus the Same” 과 스페인어로 '당신을 사랑합니다' 란 뜻인 “Te Amo”, “Rez Power” 등의 곡들도 좋았는데, 그의 아들 'Sonny Boy'가 '호튼, 호튼, 호튼'이라고 아빠의 정확한 이름을 발음했던 것 이후로 앨범에 등장한 그의 딸 'Mariah' 가 함께 부른 'Bob Dylan'의 “To Make You Feel My Love” 이 인상적이었습니다.(부클릿에 이 앨범의 작곡가들에 대해 감사를 표시하며 밥 딜런도 언급하죠^^ 이곡은 Billy Joel 이나 Kelly Clarkson, 그리고 Adele 같은 아티스트들이 리메이크 하기도 했으니 비교하며 들어봐도 재밋을것 같습니다.)

 

 

이 앨범에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있는 New Breed의 일원 'Onaje Jefferson'은 언제 거기에 합류했나요?

전 Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir의 앨범 Declare Your Name에서 무척 자주 보던 이름이라 BTC 멤버로만 알고 있었는데 말입니다...

 

이 앨범은 Alive In South Africa(2005) 처럼 DVD로도 제작되었고 9월쯤에 수입된다고 하네요.

Lakewood Church에서 촬영되었던 Michael W. Smith - A New Halleluja(2008)의 DVD를 생각하면 그림이 시원시원 할 것 같아 무척 기대됩니다^^ (밑에 맛보기 영상으로 미리 확인하시죠!)
