싱어송라이터이자 세계에서 가장 영향력있는 워십리더 중 하나이며 목사이기도 한 22년차 사역자 폴 발로쉬의 새 앨범이 나왔습니다.  2012년 정규앨범 'The Same Love', 2013년 크리스마스 앨범 'Christmas Worship'에 이어 2014년에는 라이브앨범을 가지고 찾아왔습니다. 부제도 정직하게 'Live'라고 붙였네요. 다양한 스타일로 음반을 만드는것은 참 괜찮은 아이디어로 보입니다.

62년생이니 우리 나이로 따지면 53살, 인테그리티 워십음악들의 최전성기때부터 워십리더로서도 명성을 누렸지만, 작곡가로서도 달린 첵, 마이클 W. 스미스, 크리스 탐린 등 최고 아티스트들의 음반에 참여하며 자신의 재능을 보여주었죠.

특히 자신과 같이 작곡에 재능있는 아티스트들과의 공동 작업으로 작품을 만들어 내는걸 자주 볼 수 있는데 이번 앨범에도 꽤 많은 곡들을 그와 같은 방식으로 작업하여 수록하였습니다.

Matt Maher와 함께 작업하였고 이 앨범에서 처음 발표한 "You Lift Us Up",

Brenton Brown과 공동 작곡한 "Jesus Be My Savior"는 위 곡과 함께 유이한 신곡이기도 합니다.

Brenton Brown과는 "God My Rock", "Our God Saves", "Hosanna", "Glorious" 등 이 앨범에만 해도 5곡이나 함께 작업했군요. 둘을 작곡계 영혼의 파트너로 인정하지 않을수가 없네요.

또 Graham Kendrick의 "Worship Duets(2013)" 앨범에 먼저 공개했던 "He is Risen"도 캔드릭과 공동 작곡한 곡입니다.

 

위에서도 언급했지만 이번 앨범은 새로운 곡들로 채운 앨범은 아닙니다. 오히려 신곡은 2곡 뿐이고 나머지는 자신의 대표곡들을 배치했는데 베스트곡들을 선곡함에 있어 "Open the Eyes of My Heart"나 "Above All", "Your Name" 처럼 좀 지난 곡들이 아니라 "Our God Saves", "The Same Love", "Hosanna", "Today Is the Day" 등 비교적 최근의 대표곡들로 앨범을 구성하였습니다. 이번 앨범이 캐나다에서 열린 "LeadWorship" 워크샵에서 라이브 레코딩 되었는데 함께 한 천여명의 워시퍼들에게 익숙한 곡들로 선곡되었겠군요.

그리고 무엇보다도 2009년 "Live in Korea" 이후 처음으로 DVD 영상으로 제작되었는데 우리나라에 라이선스되는 것은 이 풀DVD가 포함된 디럭스버젼입니다.

 

 

DVD 이야기가 나왔으니 언급하지 않을수가 없는데요, 폴 발로쉬 앨범 중 음반 만큼이나 큰 반향을 불러 일으켰던 것이 그의 'DVD Songbook'이었습니다.

위의 제목으로 발매된 DVD Songbook이 우리나라에서 소위 대박을 쳤지요. 기타 악보와 레슨 DVD로 구성되어 있는데 한글 자막이 없었음에도 불구하고 큰 인기를 끌었습니다. 교회에서 기타 좀 친다는 분들은 다 한권씩은 소장하고 계시죠^^
이번 앨범에 포함된 곡들중 4곡을 [Official Tutorial Video]로 공개하여 서비스하고 있습니다.

지난번 아시아투어때 한국은 빠져서 깊은 아쉬움을 남겼었는데 이후의 스케쥴에서 눈에 띄는 것은 유럽과 아프리카 투어가

예정되어 있네요. 우리나라의 일반 음악시장이나 영화시장은 세계적으로도 괜찮은 시장으로 성장했는데 기독교시장은 갈수록 위축되어 가는 느낌입니다. 많이 아쉽죠....

암튼 내년에는 폴발로쉬의 멋진 수염을 한국에서도 볼 수 있길 기대해봅니다^^
