캐나다 출신의 송라이터이자 워십리더인 Matthew "Matt" Guion Maher(1974년생)의 일곱번째 앨범 'All the People Said Amen (2013)'이 출시 됩니다. 그의 앨범 중 Empty & Beautiful (2008)에 이어 두번째로 국내에 라이선스 된거죠.

 

우리나라에는 'Your Grace Is Enough 주님의 은혜 내게 넘치네' [마커스라이브워십 2집]과 'As It Is In Heaven 하늘에 계신 아버지' [예수전도단 캠퍼스 워십 6집]이 번안되어 인지도를 높여가고 있습니다.

그의 이름 'Matt Maher'를 어떻게 표기해야 하는지에 대해 다양한 설들이 존재하는데요,  맷 마우어, 맷 마허, 매트 마허, 맷 마이어, 심지어 맷 머라고 표기하는 경우도 있더군요. 제 생각엔 '매트 마어' 가 제일 무난 할 것 같습니다.(h는 묵음^^)

 

이번 앨범은 Third Day, Mat Kearney 등의 앨범을 프로듀싱한 Paul Moak가 맡았고, 2012년 투어를 통해 레코딩된 라이브 버젼 곡들과 4곡의 새로운 스튜디오 레코딩이 포함되어 있습니다.

약간은 거친 보컬과는 대조적으로 애리조나 주립대에서 재즈를 전공한 그답게 무척 섬세하면서도 깔끔한 송라이팅과 연주가 돋보입니다. 그의 앨범 피아노 연주는 직접 녹음하고 있고, 때때로 피아노로 워십리딩을 하기도 한다는군요.

그에 대해 이야기 할 때 꼭 빼놓지 않고 언급되는 것 중 하나가 그가 카톨릭 신자라는 거죠.

하지만 미국에서도 개신교 행사나 크리스챤 아티스트 앨범에 자주 참여하는 그를 확인하게 됩니다.

 

저는 특히 작곡가로서의 매트 마어에 대해 이야기하고 싶은데요, 다른 아티스트들의 다양한 앨범에 자신의 곡을 올렸는데 공동 작업도 많이 하는걸 보면 자신만의 스타일을 고집하지 않고 유연하게 작업하는 타입인 것 같습니다.

Chris Tomlin의 (And If Our God Is For Us,2010)에 수록된 'I Lift My Hands'로 2012년 그래미 상에 노미네이트 되었고, Passion의 (White Flag,2012) 앨범에 수록된 'White Flag'으로 2년 연속 그래미 상에 노미네이트(2013년) 되기도 했습니다.

특히 (White Flag,2012)에는 'Jesus, Son Of God', 'You Revive Me', 'The Only One', 'No Turning Back', 'Jesus, All In All' 등의 곡에도 공동 작곡가로서 이름을 올렸더군요.
